EPIC FAIL of avoidance

It’s Twin Cities Marathon weekend and I’ve been doing my very best to avoid hearing about it at all costs. I’m failing miserably.

I will be working the whole weekend literally 2 blocks from the finish line for both Saturday and Sunday’s events. Cuz that’s gonna be “fun.” I had been on the holiday list for a while to see if I might magically been granted the day off Saturday so I could book it over there in time to register and run at least the 5K. Unfortunately due to my head cold of the century, I had to call into work sick last Friday and I don’t want to have to use another day of PTO potentially this weekend. You should have seen me in my walk-in bedroom closet last Friday morning at 1:51AM debating calling in. I had no voice whatsoever, I couldn’t breathe, I had a fever 100+, and lymph nodes in my neck the size of golf balls. But the runner in me had to sit there and rock back and forth in a fetal position for a while debating before I finally made the call to stay home sick and give up the idea of another race, and a little bit of participation in marathon weekend.

Oh man it was ROUGH. Ultimately I made the right choice.

I’m thrilled for my buddies running the TC 10-Miler and the TC Marathon this year. I will be there in spirit. And looking at the expo schedule, it doesn’t appear I’m missing much there, so we will focus on that, I will do my job and maybe just avoid walking past all windows of the hospital that overlook the state capitol (the finish line). Mkay?

Congrats in advance to everyone participating this weekend. Run for me.

I hope you feel better soon. Sorry you are missing out on the running jazz. I know it’s cliche, but there will be another year. I’ve wanted to run in the TCM events for so many years, and I’m finally doing it this year. You will have your year too — I know it. Hang in there!

:-) I had such an amazing time last year the whole weekend that I feel tormented this year! I will hopefully be completely off from work next year and will gain entrance into the 10-miler so I have lots to look forward to. Good luck this weekend. I wish I could come see ya!

I’m in Chicago. This is Chicago Marathon weekend. I tore a tendon in my foot in June and can’t run. I know exactly who you feel except for the fact that I honestly don’t have the ability to cover the distance at this point. Hang in there!
